My son and I are planning to visit the Island of Madeira in September of this year. I hope to locate my father's side of the family (da Gama) and hopefully my mother's side of the family (Bringuel or Berenguer). My father, Joao da Gama Jr. and my mother, Maria Marques Berenguer migrated to the Hawiian Islands on the British Ship Kumeric in 1907. My paternal grandfather, Joao da Gama Sr. and my paternal grandmother Maria Vierra de Mondonca and my maternal grandfather Manuel Bringuel (Berenguer) and my maternal grandmother Carolina Marques also were on the Kumeric. What is the best way in trying to located long lost relatives in Madeira. The last contact I had with a relative was my Aunt Carolina Bringuel way back in 1960. Her address at the time was Rua Da Ponte Nova No. 35, Funchal, Madeira.
At the time of my family's migration in 1907, they resided in an area known as Pico do Lomba do Gallego a community above the city of Faial. If anyone has knowledge of my relatives please have them contact me if possible via my e-mail address. I presently reside in Santa Clara, California USA.
